Case Study: TM
TM is a young rapper from Leicester, who writes and produces his own music. He has been involved with various projects with 2Funky Arts and has recently started hosting his own Radio show; Urban Waves on our new FM station: Radio2Funky.
TM started his development early on, through taking part in an Acting course with Leicester College. His keen interest in the performing arts, led to him developing his music skills on various projects hosted by Soft-touch arts, Pedestrian and YEP (Youth Education Project).
TM found out about our Grime Sessions Project and swiftly applied. This project taught him how to create his own songs and also gave him the confidence to perform these songs at the projects end showcase, at 2Funky Music Café. He says that that performance made him realise that ‘this music game could be a real career’.
TM then went on to join our Project: LIVE artist development programme, where he was mentored and worked with a live band to perform his music.
During this project he felt that he was able to perform to a bigger audience, which helped give him exposure and show who he is as an artist. He also benefited from the experience of taking part in a series of radio interviews, including BBC Radio Leicester, where his music was played on air.
This opportunity sparked TM’s passion for radio as it became something he felt he wanted to pursure in the future.
Off the back of Project: LIVE, TM started a period of gigging and taking part in local festivals. He released an EP called Versatility King and recorded his single “Everything”, in London at the Red Bull studios.
He then began to use his skills to educate other young people by gaining a job as a Music Tutor for local voluntary organisations.
TM has always been a supporter of the work 2Funky undertake and the launch of our FM radio station Radio2Funky, provided him with another opportunity to express his love of music.
