And Still I Rise

Artist Case study: Kelc Lo

Kelc Lo is an artist who sings, raps and is heavily into art and design. She was a commissioned artist on our And Still I Rise project in 2024.

She previously created music, but stopped pursuing it temporarily, to focus on and improve her personal life.

In 2023, she set herself a goal to start walking in her purpose and return to music. Since setting herself this goal, Kelc Lo has been performing at various shows and clubs throughout the UK, promoting herself along the way, and releasing new music.

She found out about our And Still I Rise project through a lady who recommended the opportunity to her.

‘I did some research and found out what the tour represented. Immediately… I was drawn in’.

She applied for the project and was successfully chosen to be a commission artist and perform as part of an exhilarating showcase, that toured the Midlands.

Her performance piece was a series of lyrical and conscious raps, which represented Kelc Lo’s personal experiences with racism, oppression, and the systemic issues people of colour face every day.

’‘This project was important for me because not only was I able to express emotions and experiences that I have never shared before… but I was also able to understand the importance of people coming together… and the impact it can have on people who may be struggling with particular things in their lives”.

During these shows she felt that every artist, including herself, related to someone in the audience and connected with them. This tour was that and more for Kelc Lo; it allowed her to speak her mind freely, and know, and let others know, that you aren’t the only one going through struggles.

She loved every aspect of And Still I Rise and thanks to her mentoring sessions with Carol Leeming MBE, she improved her stage presence, learnt performance techniques and how to cope with anxiety.

“My favourite part about the whole experience was the people I met. The other artists inspired me, each in their own ways. There was no judgement, no competition or anything of that nature. The way we connected and lifted each other up was really special! We created bond that will only last a lifetime!”

Despite the project coming to a close, Kelc Lo intends to keep up the momentum with her music, and has planned performances and releases for 2025. She aims to take all the things she has learnt from this project and transfer them into the things she will go on to do.

“I just want to continue to push myself and hopefully be someone that the younger generation look up to, especially my son”.
