Exploring relevant issues with art
Words without weapons
This project allowed young people to explore sensitive themes in a supportive atmosphere. It was supported by The Home Office Communities Against Guns, Gangs and Knives Fund.
Words Without Weapons
From 2012-13, young people from Leicester took part in workshops at the Curve Theatre, with renowned vocal artist Bizzi. Together, they explored themes surrounding knife and violent crime and wrote lyrics with anti-crime messages. This culminated in two Words Without Weapons showcases at the Curve Theatre (foyer). The showcase was open to friends and families of performers, and local music fans.
Through singing and MCing, young people taking part in Words Without Weapons explored some of the most relevant, emotive and scary subjects that affected our communities in the wake of the UK riots.
