Project:LIVE Showcase

Back in summer 2015, vocalists and musicians, from across the East Midlands were given the opportunity to apply to Project Live, a professional development and performance programme.

The selection panel included UK Voice 2014 Semi-Finalist Bizzi Dixon, and eight of the East Midlandsí finest new urban artists were selected. Run by 2Funky Arts and Musical Director Carol Leeming, the programme provided guidance for these artists in developing new material and raising their profile. It focused on artists working in urban music styles and music of Black origin, including soul, R&B, jazz, funk, gospel, grime and reggae.

Between September and November 2015, these artists took part in weekly sessions to enable them to learn more about the music industry from professional artists, and performed as part of a high profile showcase. This was followed by a period of mentoring to encourage further progression.

Masterclasses including Decypher (stage management), Rukus (songwriting) and Yaw (business management) were hugely well-received and beneficial. Artists reported that they had greater confidence and self-belief, as well as improving their professional and artistic skills. The project allowed artists to perform for a music industry crowd and develop new business skills and knowledge of the industry.

The programme hopes to increase the potential for artists to become signed, boost their income from performances, gain management and improve their networks. It also aims to help them to secure live bookings, across the region, following the course. Watch this space for news on round two of this highly successful programme.
