Partnership with The Spark Children's Arts Festival

For two years running (2007 & 8), 2Funky Arts delivered urban dance workshops for young people at De Montfort Hall, as part of The Spark Children’s Arts Festival.  In year two, this was packaged as Hip Hop Inc. Hip Hop Inc was an exciting all day family event. Taking place on bank holiday Monday 26th May 2008, it featured an exciting range of urban art forms, accompanied by positive leisure activities, all associated with the American-style, inner-city buzz of Hip-Hop culture.

Aimed at young people aged 6-13, the event took place at Victoria Park, Leicester, on the basket-ball & tennis courts and lawn areas. We included the following high-energy workshops, all run by artists and sports coaches who were highly experienced and skilled in working with young people:

  • Basket-ball
  • Double Dutch skipping
  • DJing
  • Break-dancing
  • Lyric-writing and performance
  • Graffiti canvas sketching

The event drew on the success of previous 2Funky Arts Urban-style projects, as well as the tradition The Spark has for bringing internationally renowned Hip-Hop artists to Leicester and stimulating participation in this field. The day had a long-term impact on local young people by encouraging them to join sport and dance clubs, as well as boosting confidence and inspiring an interest in urban music and visual art.
