Surround Sounds 08 & 09
In Spring 2008, 2Funky Arts were successful in securing funding for a two-year project, through Connexions Leicester Shire. Surround Sounds is an urban music production, promotion and performance project, for young people aged 16-19 across Leicester, not in education, employment or training. The project is designed to give disadvantaged young people the opportunity to acquire skills in music production, marketing, event management and performance. It provides opportunities for engagement in lyric writing, to boost literacy skills and allow participants to express themselves through song. The programme also features a series of character-affirming activities, with a range of high profile urban artists, to explore ethical issues as a starting point for lyric writing. The scheme is accredited by the Youth Achievement Award, to formally document the work of the young people. It is sited mainly at Leicester College. The project took place Autumn – Winter 2008 & 09.
