Midlands Best Dance Crew 2013

Leicester act Base have been crowned official winners of Midlands Best Dance Crew 2013. Second place went to Nuvo III, of Birmingham, and third to Ruby Dolls from Leicester. This is the first time the urban dance competition has been staged in Leicester.

Ten dance crews performed at Curve Theatre on 16 November 2013, in the sold-out event run by 2Funky Arts. Crews were from Birmingham, Derby, Telford, West Bromwich, Hinckley, Lutterworth and Leicester. The midlands’ most talented crews battled it out to win the trophy,as well as the £1000 prize. Dancers performed for a panel of professional judges and were scored on a range of categories, including synchronicity, musicality and originality.

The event was a celebration of all the exceptional dance crews across the region, with hip hop and street dance featuring high on the agenda. As well as the main competition, there was a cash prize for the best dancer in the audience.

Vijay Mistry, Director of 2Funky Arts said:

“This has been a fantastic event and we’re thrilled that so many people turned out to watch it.  There’s so much talent across the region and we’re very happy that we can provide a platform for showcasing this.”

The competition follows the success of Leicester’s Best Dance Crew, which has been hosted by Curve Theatre two years running.  Previous winners have gone onto perform as part of high profile dance shows such as Street Dance (Channel 4), Britain’s Got Talent (ITV) and Got to Dance (Sky1). Base are also past winners of this title.
