Swim 2 Funky Music

Swim 2 Funky Music

Summer 2012 saw our first Swim2funkymusic project. Funded by Swimathon Foundation, this allowed young people to participate in free swim and splash sessions at Cossington Street Sports Centre.  Live music from DJ Glamour provided the perfect soundtrack to the summer. Glamour played the best of Hip-Hop, R&B, Bassline, Grime, Reggae and Dubstep, to motivate young people, particularly those aged 11-16, to use the swimming pool.  Participants were able to sing along, and splash and swim around.

The project was inspired by a passion for urban music that 2Funky Arts have cultivated in their local youth following, and aimed to promote swimming as an enjoyable leisure activity, opening up the facilities of this sports centre to new users. Swim2funkymusic took place over six Saturday sessions throughout the summer holiday. Cossington Street Sports Centre reported that there was a weekly average of 172 people per session, with many repeat visits and new visitors to the pool.

The programme was a huge success –keep an eye out for future rounds!
