Leicester’s Best Dance Crew 2012
BASE: Winners of Leicester’s Best Dance Crew 2012
Local group Base have been crowned winners of Leicester’s Best Dance Crew 2012 – the biggest annual urban dance competition in the region! With eight members, aged 17-24, the Studio 79 crew won the judges over in a high energy routine. Second place went to TXS, also of Studio 79. Third place was awarded to Influence, of Addict Studios.
Ten dance crews performed at Curve Theatre on Sunday 12 February 2012, in the sold-out event run by 2Funky Arts. Leicester and Leicestershire’s most talented crews battled it out to win the trophy, as well as a stonking £1000 prize. Dancers performed for a panel of professional judges and were scored on a range of categories, including synchronicity, musicality and originality. The event also featured a jaw-dropping performance from Gingerbread Man, who has previously appeared on Got To Dance (Sky One).
The competition was a celebration of all the exceptional dance crews in the city and county, particularly those who had previously not had the platform to showcase their ability. Hip Hop, street dance and breakdance were all high on the agenda.
Addict - last year’s winners - have gone onto perform as part of high profile dance shows such as Street Dance (Channel 4), Britain’s Got Talent (ITV) and Got to Dance (Sky1).
Vijay Mistry, of 2Funky Arts, said:
“The standard this year was incredibly high and we’re thrilled that so many people turned up to see it all unfold! Look out for Base- they’re going to be big!”
